John Tzetzes was a 12th-century Byzantine scholar, grammarian, and teacher. He wrote a vast body of learned works, including explanatory notes for works of Homer, Pindar, Aeschylus, Aristophanes, Euripides, and Thucydides. His Book of Histories, also know as Chiliades {Thousands}, provides detailed literary, historical, antiquarian, and mythological explications of his own letters. Able to write in clear Attic Greek, Tzetzes should be regarded as the greatest classics scholar of all time.
